How to customize Autocad interface
We are continuing work with the workspace. In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a nonstandard workspace style.
So why do you need change workspace? Reasons can be different. Maybe you think workspace uncomfortable for you or you think there too many unusable tools that you want to remove from the ribbon to make your work more comfortable and fast.
How to duplicate and rename Autocad Workspace style?
If you want to customize workspace it would be better if you will create or duplicate existing workspace style and only do customization on it. Besides of that, you can export your workspace style settings to restore it later if something will go wrong.
So let’s begin to create our workspace. To do that go to Workspace switcher on right bottom and from menu click on Customize.
In opened Customize User Interface dialog box I’m going to duplicate Drafting & Annotation workspace style. To duplicate it click on it with right mouse button and choose Duplicate from the drop-down menu.
You will get a duplicate of this style. Now you can do anything what you wish with this workspace.
First, let rename it and set as default workspace style
To rename workspace click on it and on right bottom side you’ll see Properties dialog box. Change name to any name you like. I will change name to My Workspace. After that click on Apply and OK.
Now if you will click on Workspace Switcher icon you will see new workspace. Click on it to make It default workspace.
Don’t forget to click on Workspace Settings and change When Switching Workspaces option to Automatically save workspace changes. All changes that you will do, will automatically save.
How to change Tools ribbon?
If you don’t like that all tools at the top side you can change its place and make your workspace looks like that.
You can change ribbon view by clicking on Ribbon minimize button to change ribbon view.
How to regroup ribbon tabs and tool panels?
That quite easy to customize RIBBON. You can easily change tools panels place to make usability as you wish. Just take any panel with your mouse left button and drag it any place where you wish.
How to anchor panels to side panel?
The most used tool is Properties palette. You can call it by CTRL+1. After clicking on small Properties icon on the top side of the panel. The small drop-down menu will open. Choose Anchor left or Anchor Right to anchor panel.
After that panel will be hidden and will open only when you hover on it.
You can add other useful palettes in a similar way.
As you can see you can easily create a new workspace and customize it as you wish.
Now change workspace to make your workspace more useful for you.
